Blog of the Week!!

Hi All,

A quick post to update you on my blog of the week award!  I was awarded Blog of the Week last Wednesday from a lovely facebook group called Crafting from the Heart.  I was in Scotland when I received the news and have only just today managed to get to a computer to load up my award badge (see right) as I couldn't do it on my phone.  The blog of the week award is announced every Wednesday (so actually my term is up tonight!  Just managed to sneak in my post in time!)

Crafting from the Heart have also just set up a new Challenge bog and I would recommend popping over to take part in some fun challenges with the chance to win some prizes!  the link is below:

Fun and frosty!

So the fun is building with Christmas looming and it was quite frosty here this morning which is very apt as I share card number four made on Sunday with my scraps of Bo bunny paper found in my marathon craft blitz - aptly named "Blitzen"!  I also used some indigo blu Christmas stamps (I will find out the name). I love this snowflake stamp!  I used a swirl from another indigo blu Christmas set and embossed it white (I was trying to tie in the theme of the sentiment in my stamping - hope it worked!  I rubbed round the edges of the card with the same blue ink as I used in the stamping just to bring out the white swirl a bit more.  My embellishment was like the reindeer of previous blogs, a plain wooden embellishment found in my stash.  I painted it with gesso, stamped the swirl in blue and embossed with ultra thick embossing powder.  I then rubbed a wee bit of pearlescent mica powder over it, heated again to set it and ended up with this lovely enamel look snowflake (in fact I loved doing it so much I made three so two more to look forward to!!). I think this is my favourite of the four and so quick to make!  Hope you like x

2 minute card

The card I am sharing today is one of the four that I made on Sunday.  It is a very quick card comprising just some leftover Bo bunny paper, a touch of glitter and a rub on! Quick and simple!  Now I just need to write them all now!! Hope you like!  X

Pre Christmas tidy up!

Well this weekend's task has been to clear out and tidy up my craft cupboard.  I have a very small area that I work in on the top landing of the house and I have a small cupboard, some shelves and my desk to keep all of my stash.  It doesn't take much for me to make a mess and recently I have been struggling to know where to start with anything as I can never seem to find things!  So..... I pulled everything out of the cupboard and rearranged some stuff and actually threw out (big no no I know as I will probably regret it!!) some bits that I have had for years and have never ever used!  I even made myself a wee ribbon station!

Finally I could see what I have and decided that before buying anything more, I would set myself a challenge to diminish some of the existing stash!!

I found some lovely Bo Bunny Christmas paper and set about trying to use it up as it was just bits and pieces that I didn't have the heart to throw away.  I also found some rub ons that I got free somewhere and some Christmas wooden embellishments, again, no idea where they came from!!   I managed to make four cards in one sitting!  Tonight I will share two as they are similar and the others later.  The cards are plain and simple but I was pleased with the outcome.  I added distress ink to the wooden reindeers and then sprayed with spray and sparkle, iridescent. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!!! Hope you like x

40 with a spritz!

Tonight I have been busy making a 40th birthday card!  I love these fabric frames which, unfortunately I didn't keep the packaging for so can't remember who makes them!  I love this paper from my minds eye.  Would you believe that the numbers were originally bright red glittered?? I didn't have any others so I added gesso, inks and a spritz of ink using the stamping up spritzer thingy and some pens and hey presto!!  I was asked not to go too girly but I am not sure if it isn't still a touch girly!!?  Hope you like x

More JOFY Christmas

Quick post tonight! (Or early morning I think now!). Sharing another JOFY Christmas card.  Quite like this bright cheery scheme!  Christmas is just round the corner - better get my skates on and be a bit more productive!  I even missed all the bargains of Black Friday - Boo!  Anyway, enough bah humbug!  Hope you like x

JOFY Christmas

With the Christmas adverts on the TV and X factor hotting up who can deny Christmas is on it's way?!?  Like it or not, ready or not we have to face it and so I was trying to decide on my cards for friends and family this year.  Obviously it needs to be quick and simple to batch produce and so one idea I came up with was this simple card using a stamp set from the Jofy range.  I think they look great on kraft card and so I stamped out the tree, coloured with watercolour pencils, outlined in white, drew a white border line and added glossy accents and glitter to add dimension.  I thought it was quite effective for very little effort!  It might just make the judges houses for consideration as the 2013 Christmas card!!  Hope you like x

Deco image

Hi, sorry for my absence recently,  we are a headless chicken household just now with one thing or another!!  Anyway, I did manage to sneak away for a wee while today to make this card.  I don't normally use figures like this but I felt like trying something different for a change and this is the outcome.  The stamp set is a free gift from a magazine that I got a while ago and I kept the colour scheme quite simple, adding a bit of bling with the swirls and glitter and mounting the image on a die cut frame.  Hope you like x

Trick or treat

Tonight I have been having some fantastic fun colouring this digi stamp from Creepie Cute!  (Although that was a lot of hair!!). I decided to do a bit of a stepper card as I also had these lovely skull borders to use, also from Creepie cute.  I kept the card base simple and tried to let the image stand out.  The only bling I added was the gems in the flowers which I coloured black with pro markers. Hope you like x

I would like to enter this card for the following challenges:

Geekin' It

am setting aside some me time these days for crafting!!  I have managed to sneak some time in today while the kids were doing homework to play with this lovely Saturated Canary Geekin' It stamp from Little Darlings Rubber Stamps.  I decided to create a congratulations card maybe for a graduation or passing exams.  I used sugar loaf whispers pens and created a water colour effect.  I added My Mind's Eye Howdy Doody papers and a wee tag from Maggie Holmes Ephermera pack.  I also used Howdy Doody rub ons and some flowers and pearl jems to finish off.  Hope you like x

Hopefully it qualifies for the following challenges::

This week my son became a teenager!!! Where does the time go???  It is quite difficult to think of a card to make for him due to the fact that - he's a teenager and doesn't really take much interest in the card and so I thought I would try my way with words cd which has loads of fun words and sentiments on it.  It was a very quick card.  I printed it out on pearl card, added a bit of glitter and printed out another one so that I could cut out some letters and add glossy accents.  I was quite pleased with the end result especially as it was very quick and easy and he actually quite liked it!! Hope you like.

Normal Service Resumes!!!

After a long hot summer, enjoying being off with the kids during their school holidays, I have returned to my crafty corner at last.  The sun has disappeared and normal weather service of rain has resumed!!

A few months ago, I posted a Saturated Canary image that I had coloured "Summer".  It reminds me a lot of my youngest and I promised her I would make something with it and at last I have!! This wall hanging is perfect for her - she is certainly one of a kind, funny, quirky and loves to laugh!!  Hope you like x

Thursday, 4 July 2013

Hi there. Today I am sharing a card order make that I have just done. It was quick to do but I think sometimes the card looks very effective if it is not overworked!  But first, off the topic completely have a look at this cute picture I took this morning of a family of birds (great tits I think) having a bath in my garden. I was mesmerised sitting at my kitchen table watching them for ages.  So cute!!

The photo is a bit blurry as I used my phone.  I love the two others sitting on the side waiting their turn!

Anyway, back in the room! Hope you like my card. The brief was that the recipient loves green and dragonflies so, that's what she is getting!  Hope you like x

Canvas card

Today I tried making a card using a wee canvas. I went on a card weekend run by Rosemary Merry a few years ago and she showed us how to make a card like this.  I really liked the technique. It invokes using gel medium to transfer an image from patterned paper onto the canvas. I used My mind's eye paper.  I then added a few embellishments and buttons and stamped a sentiment. I used the Tim holtz little book of words for the typed words. I attached ribbon round the sides to neaten it up a bit and stuck the canvas onto a card blank.  I would maybe do a couple of things differently but in all I am quite pleased and will definitely try this technique again! Hope you like x

Card order - Woodware Stamp set BD23 2DE

Hi folks,  today I am sharing a card that I made to order for a friend.  The brief was:

  • Girly
  • Blue
  • Birds
  • Birthday
  • Must refer to friend

So, I started by using my spellbinder dies to make a card base, I cut two of the same size shape and ran one of them through with an embossibility folder.  I scored the back section just below the lowest cut mark of the shape and attached the two together.  Then I cut another two smaller pieces from the same set of dies and used an even smaller one to cut an aperture in one to form a frame.  Phew! with the basis of the construction finished I got to work with my Woodware clear magic stamp set BD23 2DE which is a lovely bird set.  My friend doesn't like birds in cages so I avoided using the lovely bird cage and let the birds fly free!!

On the back panel of my aperture I stamped the branches, some leaves and some blue flowers.  On another piece of card I re stamped some more flowers and three birds.  I coloured the birds using the same ink that I used to stamp the flowers (Stampin up bashful blue).  I added some stickles to the hearts and wings (I had a problem as I had used distress inks and they didn't like stickles!! I ended up with a brownish tinge to the wings!! so I re-stamped the birds using memento Cocoa and stickled the wings and hearts, cut them out and added that as decoupage to my wee birdies!).  I cut all of these out to add later.

For the sentiments I used Stampin up sincere salutations and masked off a section of a stamp in My Mind's eye Miss Caroline "Dolled Up" to get Friend.  I used my Stampin up scalloped circle punch.  I inked round the edges with my blue ink and assembled the card raising the frame slightly using foam pads.  I then stuck down the additional flowers and put the birds in place, tied a bit of ribbon into a bow plus an additional blue piece to attach Friend sentiment and there we go card made to order!

Hope you like. x

Fabulous You

Tonight I am going out for a lovely meal with my close friends to celebrate a 40th birthday.  My friend has loads of shoes and so I thought that this Fabulous You set from Stampin up was very apt.  I used white Stazon ink, Stampin up card stock and a Stampin up embossing folder. I thought the white ribbon would lighten up the card and I added some gems etc to jazz if up a bit. I didn't want to put forty all over it, so I didn't!  Hope you like x

Busy, busy, busy!!

I do not have a card to show today but I thought I would update you on my activities!! I have been asked to be a guest designer for the Twisted Tuesdays challenge blog for June and I have been working on some cards for that. Also, it is my close friend's 40 birthday soon and I have made her a very special "card"!!!  Both projects are under wraps for now but as soon as I can I will post them!  Take care x

I won!!!

Before I show you a wee quick card I made I have to share my exciting news - I won a challenge!!!! I have not been entering challenges very long (in fact only in very recent months) and so imagine my surprise and delight when I found out I had won a recent Little Clare's challenge!!  This is the link to the Little Claire blog with my winning card!! I am so chuffed!

Today my lovely prize arrived which I ripped open with much excitement as I love Little Claire products:

I cannot wait to get going and use these lovely stamps, particularly the Butterfly blossom and the Scotty Dog stamps!!

Now (tries to contain herself!), onto a very quick card I made last night without stamps! This time I just used paper, acetate, stickers and glossy accents!  I love an acetate card!  I used the Heidi Grace "Tweet Dreams" 12x12 paper pad and the Heidi Grace "Tweet Memories"  chipboard stickers.  The idea for the sentiment rectangle I got from Melanie Heaton on Create and Craft. I just backed it with some co-ordinating paper cut with a die.  On the wee bird, one of the bird houses and one of the love hearts on the sentiment I added glossy accents.  Bit of doodling on the inside paper (and the piece that I added to the back to hide the glue) and voila, done in about 5 minutes plus glossy accent drying time!!  I thought this would be a sweet engagement, anniversary or even wedding card due to the lovely words in the sentiment.  Hope you like x

Love is in the air....

I got these two cute stamps free with a craft mag recently and then bought this Mister Huey mask. I thought that they all went really well together to make this simple two minute card!  Great for Wedding, anniversary or valentine!  Hope you like x

JOFY mini

Can you tell I love JOFY stamps??  This time I used the JOFY mini along with the butterfly from another JOFY set.  I wanted to play with mixing colours and so used distress inks (mustard seed, dusty concord and old olive) and archival cranberry. I laid some ink onto my mat and sprayed with water, then I took a piece of card and moved it over the inks to mix the ink on the card. Once dry I stamped my images. I went in and filled in some detail with stronger colours (i.e the flower, stem and circles on the butterfly)I then triple embossed the two images to make them nice and shiny.  For the background paper I did the same thing with just mustard seed and cranberry. It was really wet so I left it to dry overnight. I stamped words onto different colours of ribbon, doodled round the edge of the background trying to imitate the JOFY style and used the JOFY stamp with the wee circles in the corners. Assembled it all together layered on pink card and then on a white card blank and tadaa!!  Hope you like x

Sugar Nellie - Little Star

I have been playing all day today and so have been able to make another card, this time using a cute little Sugar Nellie stamp "Little Star". I was practicing painting with Tim Holtz distress inks and I think she turned out not too bad! I had the Thinking of you sentiment in my stash (I think it came free with a mag) and I used my favourite paper by My Mind's Eye. I added some extra detail with Rub ons from My Min's Eye and some buttons and a star brad from my stash. Hope you like x

Magic Birthday!

It is my nephew's birthday today and as he is Harry Potter mad, I made him this card. I made it using my first ever digi stamp which I got from Karber stamps. The sentiment is just done in Word using the shape tool and the name is cut on my cricut using the Don Juan cartridge. I resized the image as I wanted him large and I coloured him with pro markers. Hope you like (and I hope he likes it too!!) x

Today I thought that I would give the Little Claire challenge a go. I am a member of the Little Claire club which sends me a stamp each month with some instructions on how to make a particular card. I love the designs of all the Little Claire stamps I have had so far.  For my card today I went a bit grungy.  I used the Garden set (as I am finally starting to see some colour in my garden and am thinking i should make a start with planting seeds etc!!) and so I decided to "muddy" up the card with distress inks. I had a little doodle too which was fun. I used papermania dew drops but I only had the grey so I coloured them with one of my flex markers to make them a bit more pink.  My sentiment was from a selection of Little Claire  sentiment stamps that I have.  Hope you like x

I am entering this card for the Little Claire Challenge #32 "Spring and a Sketch"

Looking at some other challenges I thought I might also enter this card for the following:

Saturated Canary - Summer

Saturated Canary Wall Hanging

I made this wall hanging for my daughter using the Saturated Canary Honey Stamp. I coloured her with pro markers and cut her out. Then I cut a grey backing with my Grand Labels Twenty Three. I cut down two pieces of chipboard and painted one with Martha Stewart acrylic paint (pink carnation). I inked the edges and random parts of the chipboard with silver ink and then spritzed with back ink. I stamped the sentiment from The Art Houses stamp set by Creative Expressions. I then used the heart rub on from She Art rub ins (artsy textures). The pink dots are taken from an idea I saw on Pinterest where I bunched five pencils together with erasers on the end, dipped the erasers in adirondack cranberry ink and stamped! The black circles are an old toothpaste top dipped in memento and stamped (a technique I learned from Kath Stweart at my recent retreat!). The superstar ticket is from the stamp set by docrafts Papermania happy days (Ticket Stubs) which I cut out, inked round the edges and stuck on. Once everything was dry I stuck my backing chipboard to the grey background, added my ribbon (from create and craft) and then stuck on the front chipboard. Finally I added a grey bow and tadaaa I was done!! Hope you like x

I would like to enter this for the following challenge:

Morning, today I thought I would share my paper piecing card. I stamped out various cupcakes using Hero Art Stamps, masking them to get some behind thos in the front row etc. Then I stamped the paper cases onto patterned paper, cut them out and stuck them on to the images. I did the same with the cake toppers. It took a while but I thought it looked quite effective in the end. Hope you like x
